Today I saw my first butterfly of the season! It was a Moss' Elfin, and this has been the first butterfly I've seen every year that we've lived here on the island. At first glance, it looks like a boring little brown thing, but when you really look, it's gorgeous. The brown has irridescent purple highlights, and the patterning on the undersides of the wings is intricate and lovely.

I look forward to these every year. I'm going to try to get a picture of my own, because the one on the web just doesn't do it justice.
